A 20-year-old man has been sentenced to 35 months in a young offender institution after subjecting his former girlfriend to a campaign of domestic abuse and threatening her family members, including a five-month-old baby.

Mason Rudy, from Cwmcarn, Caerphilly, was convicted of multiple offences including controlling and coercive behaviour, assault, and strangulation. The court heard he had punched, kicked, and spat at his victim, who feared for her life.

Cardiff Crown Court was told Rudy made baseless accusations of infidelity, forcing his partner to leave her job after he threatened her boss. He also made disturbing allegations about her relationship with her brother.

“Your jealousy took over your relationship,” Judge Vanessa Francis told Rudy. “You are an extremely immature young man and you have a lot of growing up to do.” ⚖️

The defendant, who has previous convictions for domestic violence against another former partner, was also sentenced for a separate affray incident involving an unprovoked attack in Newbridge.
