A 49-year-old man from Cwmbran will be sentenced next month after indicating guilty pleas to possessing hundreds of indecent images of children.
Colin Bick, of Marl Court, Thornhill, appeared before Newport Magistrates’ Court, where the case was adjourned so a report could be prepared ahead of sentencing.
The charges
Magistrates heard that Bick had been in possession of indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of children across a period spanning more than two and a half years, running from 20 November 2023 to 8 July 2026.
He indicated guilty pleas to the offences during the hearing.
What was found
The images numbered 216 in total, graded across the three categories the courts use to measure seriousness.
Of those, 83 fell into category A, the most serious of the three gradings. A further 36 were classed as category B, with the remaining 97 falling into category C.
Bail and notification requirements
After the hearing concluded, magistrates made Bick subject to notification requirements – commonly known as the sex offenders register – which will remain in place while the case is still live.
He was instructed to report to Cwmbran police station.
The bench granted him unconditional bail until proceedings resume.
Sentencing
A pre-sentence report has been ordered so that the court can consider the full range of sentencing options available to it.
Bick is due back before Newport Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 6 August.
