A Holyhead woman has spoken out about her experience of domestic abuse after her former partner was sentenced to three years and four months in prison today at Caernarfon Crown Court.

Justin Harvey, 35, of Tan y Efail, admitted to engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour that left his victim with serious injuries including a damaged foot ligament and broken finger, forcing her to give up her career as a hairdresser.

“I was blinded by love…I tried and tried to help him but it didn’t work. I need to move on for myself and my kids,” the brave survivor told the court.

The court heard how Harvey’s campaign of abuse included choking incidents, physical assaults, and threatening behaviour. In one incident, he entered a pub wielding a bat, leaving witnesses describing him as “shouting and spitting.”

His Honour Timothy Petts imposed a 20-year restraining order, noting that Harvey had become a “violent and controlling” man with offences in the most serious category.

The judge expressed hope that with support from friends and family, the survivor would be able to recover both emotionally and physically. 💪
