🚗 Oakley Nunes, 24, has been disqualified from driving for three years after admitting he failed to provide police with a blood sample during an investigation into suspected drink or drug driving.
The motorist, of Sullivan Circle, Newport, pleaded guilty at Newport Magistrates’ Court to failing without reasonable excuse to provide a specimen of blood for laboratory analysis. Alongside the ban, magistrates handed him a community order that runs until 15 July 2027.
The incident
The charge relates to 6 June, when Nunes was suspected of having driven a vehicle at Ystrad Mynach. Officers required him to provide a blood sample under the Road Traffic Act 1988, but he failed to do so without a reasonable excuse. He entered his guilty plea on 22 June and returned to court to be sentenced on 16 July.
The community order
Under the order, Nunes must complete up to 15 days of rehabilitation activity. He is also subject to an alcohol abstinence and monitoring requirement lasting 90 days, until 13 October, and must comply with the fitting of alcohol-monitoring equipment. To allow that equipment to be installed, magistrates directed him to remain at his home address between 5pm and midnight until 18 July.
The driving ban
His three-year disqualification, formally recorded as 36 months, has been backdated to 22 June, when an interim ban first took effect.
Fines and costs
Nunes was fined £40, cut from £60 to reflect his guilty plea, and ordered to pay £85 in prosecution costs along with a £114 victim surcharge. The money will be recovered through deductions from his benefits at £20 a month, beginning on 12 August.
