Two care workers admit neglecting victim in Newport

Two care workers have pleaded guilty to ill-treating or wilfully neglecting a person in their care.

The offence

Richard Smith, 58, and Nicola Sibley, 44, both admitted the charge relating to an incident in Newport in January 2024.

The pair appeared before Newport Magistrates’ Court, where each entered a guilty plea to the offence.

Sentencing

Smith, of Blewitt Street, Newport, was handed a fine of £1,264 along with a £506 surcharge and £42.50 in costs.

Sibley, of Commercial Street, Pontymister, Risca, received a £200 fine with an £80 surcharge and £42.50 costs.
