A Narberth teenager has been sentenced to over three years in a Young Offender Institution after he continued selling drugs while under police investigation. 📱💰
Ieuan Duffy, 19, of Hill Park in Narberth, was first arrested in December 2023 when police found nearly 152 grams of cannabis valued at £1,680, along with cash and dealing paraphernalia at his home.
Despite being released under investigation, officers returned to Duffy’s address in January this year where they discovered 28 grams of cocaine worth up to £2,000 and 427 grams of cannabis valued at £4,740, alongside more than £3,000 in cash.
In court, defence lawyer Dan Griffiths highlighted systemic issues, stating: “This case does expose some of the clear issues with the system.” He suggested Duffy might not have reoffended had he been prosecuted “in a timely manner” after his initial arrest.
The teenager, who had no previous convictions, apologised to the court in a letter, saying: “I have let both my family and community down.”
Judge Huw Rees told Duffy: “I dare say that without any involvement in cannabis from a young age, you wouldn’t have found yourself in the position you have. You’ve been a fool, unto yourself. You have acknowledged that.”
Duffy was sentenced to three years and five months after pleading guilty to multiple charges including supply of cocaine and cannabis. He will return to court on August 8 for a Proceeds of Crime Act hearing aimed at recovering profits from his drug dealing activities.
