A Newport man who turned to drug dealing after becoming addicted to cocaine following a workplace accident has been jailed for 30 months.

Jordan Kiely, 27, of Walford Davies Drive, was found in possession of more than £7,000 worth of cocaine when police raided his home on August 22. Officers discovered a total of 164.g of cocaine hidden in his bedroom, including 96.2g found in orange packaging under his bed, along with dealing paraphernalia such as scales, snap bags, and paracetamol to be used as a cutting agent.

Police also found a knuckleduster tied to a pair of trousers and a piece of paper containing a “tick list” of debts.

Cardiff Crown Court heard Kiely had become addicted to drugs and alcohol after having his toe amputated following a work injury. His barrister, Gareth Williams, said the defendant was dealing to pay off a “significant drug debt” and wants to become a good role model to his five-year-old son.

Kiely pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply a class A drug and possession of an offensive weapon.

Sentencing, Judge Paul Hobson said: “You were in direct contact with customers, supplying to them in significant quantities, handling their money and were trusted to do so while keeping track of debts owed. All of this was for significant financial gain, by seeking to reduce your own financial debt.”

Kiely was sentenced to 30 months imprisonment.
