One person has been arrested after officers taking part in a vehicle crime operation in Blaenau Gwent came across a vehicle on cloned plates that turned out to be stolen.
The arrest
The vehicle was spotted by officers carrying out targeted patrols. Its cloned plates prompted further enquiries, which confirmed it had been stolen, and a person was then arrested.
About Operation Athena
The patrols form part of Operation Athena, which is currently running across the Blaenau Gwent area. The operation targets vehicle crime and those responsible for it, with officers working alongside Gwent Police’s roads policing unit.
Community support
The force said information from local people continues to play a key part in its work, and thanked residents for their support in helping to make Blaenau Gwent a better and safer place to live.
Prevention days on the way
Proactive work under the operation will continue. Gwent Police also plans to announce dates soon for its prevention days, which offer free tool marking and vehicle theft prevention. The force said previous events had proved very popular.
