A Prestatyn man has been jailed for 30 months after ringing his partner from prison and telling her not to support the prosecution case against him.

Damien Kelly, 46, of Charleston Avenue, was facing a charge of using controlling behaviour when he made the call from HMP Berwyn in June using another prisoner’s phone.

Mold Crown Court heard that Kelly told Tracey Blades that if she received a summons, she should go to a hotel and “turn her phone off”.

Prosecutor Emmalyne Downing said Kelly told his partner she would only get a “fine” yet he faced five years behind bars.

He said: “I just can’t do five years. I want to see you. I want to see the dog.”

The controlling behaviour case was ultimately dropped, but Kelly pleaded guilty to doing an act intending to pervert the course of justice between March and August.

His Honour Rhys Rowlands called Kelly “a manipulative individual” as he sentenced him to 30 months in prison.
