A 77-year-old Prestatyn man has been sentenced to a decade behind bars following his conviction for a string of historic sexual offences committed against a child.
Guilty verdict
Michel Marie Antoine Baucage, of Plas Avenue, Prestatyn, stood trial and was found guilty of seven offences in total – four counts of assaulting a child by touching, inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child, and two counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child.
Sentence and orders
On top of the 10-year prison term, the court imposed an indefinite restraining order against Baucage and placed him on the sex offenders register. A Sexual Harm Prevention Order lasting 10 years was also handed down.
Police response
Detective Constable Rebecca Watkiss of North Wales Police’s Protecting Vulnerable People Unit spoke after the sentencing.
She said: “I welcome today’s sentence, providing a clear message to all victims of paedophiles such as Baucage that whilst their crimes may be historic, we will treat all reports of abuse with the utmost seriousness, and whenever possible, we will bring perpetrators before the Court and hold them to account.
“I would like to highlight the courage of the victim in this case, and I would encourage anyone who has been a victim of this or any other similar abuse, to contact us via our live webchat or on 101.”
