A routine traffic stop in Pembrokeshire led to the discovery of a massive drugs haul – and now the driver is facing eight years behind bars.
Dean Evans’ day took a turn for the worse when Road Policing officers pulled over his grey Seat Ateca on Hoyland Road in Pembroke on Friday, January 2. The 43-year-old’s own words sealed his fate when he told officers they’d find “stuff” in his car.
That admission prompted a search under the Misuse of Drugs Act, and what officers uncovered in the boot was staggering – a cardboard box hiding a one-kilogram block of cocaine alongside ten half-kilogram packets of herbal cannabis. The street value? Well over £150,000.
Evans was immediately arrested and charged with possession with intent to supply both Class A and Class B drugs. He appeared at Swansea Magistrates Court the very next day – Saturday, January 3 – where he pleaded guilty to both charges.
His fate was sealed at Cardiff Crown Court on Thursday, January 28, where he received an eight-year prison sentence for trafficking the substantial quantity of illegal drugs into the county.
DC Jones from Pembrokeshire’s Serious Organised Crime Unit didn’t mince words about the result: “Tackling the supply of illegal drugs is a priority for Dyfed-Powys Police and the misery that illegal drugs bring to local communities will not be tolerated. We welcome this sentence passed to Dean Evans considering the large amount of harmful drugs that he was caught trafficking into Pembrokeshire. This sentence should serve as a stark warning to any others who are tempted into the illegal drugs trade in Dyfed and Powys.”
