A 28-year-old man has been sentenced to three years in prison after admitting he set fire to a woman’s property in Tredegar.

Sam Francis pleaded guilty to arson being reckless as to whether a property would be destroyed or damaged at Cardiff Crown Court.

The court heard the offence took place on August 4, 2023.

Prosecutor Pamela Kaiga outlined the case against Francis, while his barrister Matthew Comer urged the court to take his client’s guilty plea into account when sentencing.

The plea was entered on the day his trial was due to begin, before the jury could be sworn in.

Francis, of Brompton Place, Tredegar, was jailed for three years and ordered to pay a £228 victim surcharge.
