A Porthcawl man jailed for six years after being found guilty of rape and sexual assault

A 48-year-old man has been sentenced to six years behind bars for rape and sexual assault carried out at a flat in August 2023.

Jason Bailey, of Porthcawl, appeared at Cardiff Crown Court today (Tuesday, March 17) where he was handed the prison term following his conviction on December 5 last year.

The offences

Bailey was found guilty of rape and assault on a female after the attacks took place at a flat on August 28, 2023. The court heard how Bailey had deliberately exploited a power imbalance over his victim.

The sentence

Bailey received a six-year custodial sentence for the offences.

Police response

Speaking after sentencing, Detective Constable Ashley Colston said: “Jason Bailey was under no illusion that the acts he carried out were illegal, yet he did so anyway.

“Bailey exploited a power imbalance and thrived off it.

“We commend the bravery of the victim who, by telling us what Bailey did, helped to secure this conviction and sentence.”
