A 30-year-old man has been sentenced to eight years in prison after being found guilty of rape at Cardiff Crown Court.
Dexter Walkey, of Porth, was also made subject to sex offender notification requirements indefinitely and a restraining order imposed until further notice. He was sentenced on Friday, May 1.
The offence
The court heard how Walkey and the victim had connected through a dating app before going on a night out together in Cardiff. They later returned to the victim’s home address, where she fell asleep.
She woke to find Walkey having sex with her – something she had not consented to.
Text message evidence
The following day, Walkey sent the victim a text message in which he apologised for his behaviour. Despite this, he went on to deny the charge of rape when the case came to court.
A jury found him guilty on March 20, 2026.
Police response
Detective Constable Ellie Adkins from South Wales Police, the officer in the case, said: “I would like to commend the victim for reporting what happened to her and for the strength she has shown throughout the investigation.
“I hope that the sentence imposed by the court goes some way in allowing the victim to move forward with her life.”
