A 55-year-old from Maesteg will spend more than five years behind bars for sexual offences against a woman.
Sentencing
Stephen Jones was handed a prison term of five years and three months when he appeared at Cardiff Crown Court on Monday 7 September.
Alongside the custodial sentence, the judge imposed a restraining order lasting 20 years and a sexual harm prevention order. Jones’s name will also be added to the sex offenders register.
The trial
Jones had denied the allegations, but a jury convicted him in July following a five-day trial at the same court.
He was found guilty of one count of rape of a female aged 16 or over, and one count of assault by penetration of a female aged 13 or over.
Police response
Detective Constable Rebecca Evans of South Wales Police said: “The bravery it takes to come forward and reporting offences like these not to be underestimated.
“We hope that this sentence will go some way in helping the victim rebuild her life and heal from the awful events that took place.”
She added: “We want to encourage victims to come forward no matter the length of time since it happened, we will investigate and we will take it seriously”
