Paedophile caught with 1,600+ indecent images of children

A paedophile was caught with more than 1,600 indecent images of children being sexually abused.

Liam Shades, 41, of no fixed abode, Pontywaun, near Risca, Caerphilly was arrested following a Gwent Police raid in May, prosecutor Ieuan Bennett told Newport Crown Court.

The defendant had 379 category A images of children being sexually abused which portrayed victims being raped by adults.

He pleaded guilty to this as well as making 266 indecent images of children at category B and 988 indecent images of children at category C.

The offences took place between May 2015 and this year.

Shades’ barrister Jac Brown asked the court to give him credit for his early guilty pleas.

Judge Carl Harrison gave Shades a 14-month sentence suspended for two years.

The defendant will have to carry out 140 hours of unpaid work and complete a 20-day rehabilitation activity requirement.

He will have to register as a sex offender for 10 years and made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order for the same period.
