A 58-year-old Ammanford man will spend 38 months behind bars for supplying cocaine. A woman who was inside his property when police forced their way in has avoided an immediate prison term.
Ian Stanton, of Maes y Glyn, and Margaret Lewis, 63, of Tir y Dail Lane, both Ammanford, were sentenced at Swansea Crown Court on Friday, 2nd October. Each had admitted possession of class A drugs with intent to supply.
Sentencing
- Stanton was jailed for 38 months.
- Lewis received 18 months in prison, suspended for two years, and must carry out 200 hours of unpaid work.
The raid
Stanton came onto the radar of Dyfed-Powys Police after officers received a number of intelligence logs about him. They executed a warrant at his property on Friday, 14th August, forcing entry.
Inside, they recovered:
- a large quantity of white powder, later confirmed to be cocaine
- scales
- plastic packets
- multiple phones
- around £5,500 in cash, stashed across various boxes and bags
The arrests
Stanton was not at the property when officers arrived, but Lewis was. She first told officers she was simply housesitting for him. She was arrested and later charged with possession of class A drugs with intent to supply.
Officers later tracked Stanton down in the Sussex Police area, where he was arrested. He was then brought back to a custody suite in Dyfed-Powys. He and Lewis were both remanded into custody, and they pleaded guilty when they appeared at Swansea Crown Court on Thursday, 17th September.
What police said
DC Steven Thomas, of Dyfed-Powys Police, said: “This is another example of intelligence-led policing making Dyfed-Powys a hostile area to people who deal drugs.
“This was an organised operation that saw Stanton and Lewis putting large amounts of class A drugs into our communities. Disrupting this activity has helped us to make them safer for everyone.”
