A Newport woman who attacked two emergency workers has been sentenced to a 12-month community order after appearing before the city’s magistrates’ court.

Michaela Johnson, 47, from Ogmore Crescent in Bettws, pleaded guilty to two counts of assaulting an emergency worker following incidents on 7 December. The court heard she attacked both a police officer and a custody detention officer during the altercation.

Johnson also admitted to possession of cannabis when she appeared before magistrates M Duggan, S Williams and W Reynolds.

As part of her sentence, Johnson must complete a 20-day rehabilitation activity requirement and will be subject to a three-month electronic curfew, confining her to her home address between 8pm and 6am each night.

The court ordered Johnson to pay £200 compensation to each of her victims, totalling £400. Magistrates also directed the forfeiture and destruction of the drugs seized.

Ben Waters represented Johnson during the hearing, whilst Sarah Cole appeared for the prosecution.
