😢 A Newport woman who swindled her elderly aunt and uncle out of £150,000 to fund a lavish lifestyle of designer clothes and luxury holidays has been sentenced to prison.

Lucy Paginton, 28, betrayed Frank and Mary Hillier (aged 88 and 90) who had helped raise her since she was a toddler. The couple had treated her as their own granddaughter, helping her with lease cars and holidays throughout her life.

The court heard how Paginton deceived the elderly couple by claiming she needed money to purchase two properties, including one for them to live in. Instead, she used the funds for shopping at high-end retailers like Flannels and stays at the Celtic Manor Resort.

Judge Carl Harrison stated: “You cynically and repeatedly over a period of time – for four years – abused the trust that Frank and Mary Hillier placed in you to enrich yourself and defraud them.”

Despite the betrayal, the heartbroken couple confessed they still love their niece, who has been sentenced to four years and two months in prison. 💔
