A Newport man has been sentenced to prison after police discovered a substantial amount of drugs and cash at his property.

Daniel Jackson, 30, was apprehended while riding an e-bike after officers followed him to Albert Avenue, Newport. Despite initially providing false information about his address, police located his residence on Brynderwen Road.

A subsequent search revealed 1.492kg of cannabis with a street value between £6,200 and £9,000, alongside £43,980 in cash. Officers also found a mobile phone containing numerous drug-related messages.

Judge Daniel Williams noted Jackson’s previous convictions, stating: “You have convictions which include possession with intent to supply cannabis back in 2012, possession with intent to supply cannabis in 2019, for which a suspended sentence was imposed, and offering to supply cannabis in the following year.”

The defendant, who has been working in the prison kitchen whilst on remand, was sentenced to 16 months imprisonment, of which he will serve half before being released on licence. 💼

A proceeds of crime hearing is scheduled for later this year.
