A Newport man has been sentenced to 20 months in prison after admitting to a prolonged campaign of domestic abuse against his former partner. 💔

Glenn Morgan, 43, from Ringwood Hill, appeared at Cardiff Crown Court having pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, assault by beating and an offence under the Malicious Communications Act for incidents spanning from 2012 to 2024.

The court heard how Morgan threatened his ex-girlfriend, saying she would find her father “floating in the canal” during a series of disturbing phone calls.

In one violent episode, Morgan hurled a mobile phone at the victim’s face after becoming jealous when she liked a Facebook photo of a friend, leaving her with two black eyes.

A second assault on Christmas Day 2013 saw Morgan pick up his then-partner “off her feet from behind and threw her out of the door,” according to Recorder Dyfed Llion Thomas. “She landed headfirst on the concrete floor,” he added, causing a gash that left the victim covered in blood and with a permanent scar above her left eyebrow.

The judge described the attacks as “as cruel as they were cowardly.”

The court was told Morgan has 11 previous convictions for 28 offences, including past incidents of domestic violence.

In addition to the prison sentence, of which Morgan will serve 40% before release on licence, he was made subject to a five-year restraining order prohibiting any contact with the victim.
