A 23-year-old man has been locked up for 12 months after admitting to strangling a woman and assault by beating.
Addison Fouweather, of Hargreaves Drive, Newport, pleaded guilty to the offences at Newport Magistrates’ Court.
The court heard the offences were committed between November 20 last year and January 20.
His victim cannot be named after reporting restrictions were imposed.
As well as the prison sentence, Fouweather was made the subject of a two-year restraining order not to contact the woman.
He must also pay a £187 surcharge and £85 costs following his release from prison.
