A Newport drug gang leader who controlled a network of 23 runners across South Wales has been sentenced to eight years in prison for trafficking cocaine.
Said Kaid, 35, operated the extensive drug network alongside Jamie Webber, managing deliveries across Newport, Cwmbran and Pontypool. The operation came crashing down when police seized 3kg of cocaine.
Judge Eugene Egan’s words were cutting: “All of you played for high stakes with your eyes wide open and ultimately you all lost. You were heading up the operation in close partnership with Jamie Webber.”
In a particularly troubling development, Kaid recruited his own sister Nabeela, 36, a former NHS worker and mother of six, into the criminal enterprise.
Five other gang members received sentences on 17 January:
- Jamie Webber: 10 years, 4 months
- Michael Cornwall: 5 years
- Nabeela Kaid: 3 years, 4 months
- Alexa Cronin: 28 months
- Sinead Carey: 24 months (suspended)
Kaid’s defence barrister, Martha Smith-Higgins, described him as a father-of-two from Newport’s Yemeni community who is “trying to better himself in prison.”
A proceeds of crime hearing is scheduled for Said Kaid, Nabeela Kaid, and Jamie Webber. ⚖️
