A 38-year-old man has been sentenced to 32 weeks in prison after stealing goods worth more than £1,600 from stores across Newport, Cwmbran and Pontypool.

Shaun Ryan targeted multiple retailers between October and January, taking items including Shark vacuum cleaners, Lego sets, perfume, and alcohol. The largest single theft involved whisky worth £423 from Tesco in Pontypool.

The court heard that Ryan had only recently been released from prison on 9th January for previous shoplifting offences before committing new crimes. He was arrested last week for breaching his licence terms.

The full list of thefts included:

  • £99 perfume set from The Perfume Shop, Newport
  • £94 worth of dishwasher tablets from One Stop, Cwmbran
  • Three Shark vacuum cleaners totalling nearly £560
  • Lego and a Russell Hobbs iron worth £190
  • Alcohol worth £673 from Tesco, Pontypool

Ryan, of no fixed abode, also caused £50 damage to a garden gate in Cwmbran. He has been ordered to pay compensation to his victims. 💷
