A Newport man has been sentenced to five years in prison following a series of disturbing domestic abuse incidents, including forcing a KFC wrap down his girlfriend’s throat while calling her a “fat c***”.

Nash Jeffries, 27, subjected his partner of four years to controlling behaviour, strangulation, and physical assaults. The court heard how he would frequently accuse her of being unfaithful, particularly with his brother.

“He was abusive and violent to her and would frequently accuse her of being with other men, especially his brother,” prosecutor Matthew Comer told Newport Crown Court.

In one incident at a nightclub, Jeffries forced his girlfriend to look at the floor to prevent her from looking at other men. 👮

The defendant, who has previous convictions for battery against two former girlfriends, was found guilty of assault occasioning actual bodily harm against another partner.

His defence barrister, Cat Jones, described him as a “bright young man” who was “remorseful” for his actions. The court heard Jeffries suffers from anxiety and depression.

Recorder Andrew Hammond stated during sentencing: “You are a man who makes a habit of abusing women who enter into a relationship with you. You are assessed as posing a high risk of serious harm to future partners.”

Jeffries received two 10-year restraining orders and must pay a surcharge after release.
