A 35-year-old from North Wales has been barred from entering Chester city centre and a nearby retail park after a court found he had been persistently approaching strangers to beg for cash.

Daniel Curtis was handed a two-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) when he appeared at Chester Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, March 19.

Police had gathered evidence showing Curtis had a pattern of stopping members of the public and requesting money, claiming he would repay them by bank transfer – but no payments were ever made.

Under the terms of the order, Curtis is prohibited from entering Chester city centre or Deva Retail Park. He is also forbidden from approaching people he does not know to ask for or encourage them to hand over money.

Inspector James Wilson said: “Curtis has been a persistent problem in the Chester area and these conditions will help to protect the public from his behaviour and allow us to take swift action if he breaches them.

“This should also send out a strong message that this kind of behaviour will not be tolerated.

“If anyone witnesses Curtis breaching his CBO, please contact Cheshire Police on 101 or through our website to report it.”
