A 41-year-old woman has been sentenced to 12 weeks in prison after pleading guilty to six counts of theft targeting shops in the Maesteg area.

Samantha Jones, of Maesteg, carried out the thefts between February and March 2026, stealing goods worth more than £380 in total from two stores.

The offences

Four of the thefts took place at Asda on Castle Street in Maesteg, where Jones stole meat and spirits with a combined value of £300. She also targeted Filco Stores on Hermon Road in Caerau on two occasions, taking coffee and meat worth around £80.

Sentencing and ban

Jones was sentenced at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court on Monday, March 30, 2026. Alongside the prison term, she was made subject to a two-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO).

The order bans her from entering any retail premises on Talbot Street and Commercial Street in Maesteg, as well as Asda Stores on Castle Street, B&M Bargains on Llynfi Road, and Filco Stores on Hermon Road, Caerau.

Police response

Maesteg Neighbourhood Policing Sergeant Danielle Burton said: “This was a thorough and in-depth investigation run by our neighbourhood policing teams, businesses in our community deserve to be able to trade without worrying about theft.

“Not only will Jones now serve a short sentence, but she will also be under conditions from the CBO when she is released from jail.”
