A Llandudno man has been handed an extended prison sentence after spitting at two police officers who arrested him following a disturbance at a town centre shop.
Paul Ryan Williams, 33, of Chapel Street, was sentenced to 26 weeks in custody when he appeared at Magistrates’ Court today (Wednesday, 21 January).
The incident unfolded on 19 January at a retail premises on Mostyn Street, where Williams had attempted to purchase alcohol. Staff refused to serve him due to his level of intoxication, prompting him to become threatening and abusive towards shop workers.
Police were called to the scene and arrested Williams, but as officers detained him, he spat at both attending constables before being taken into custody.
Williams was subsequently charged with two counts of common assault on an emergency worker, alongside using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour. He also faced two counts of theft from a shop.
The court handed down an extended custodial sentence of 26 weeks, reflecting the serious nature of assaulting emergency workers who were simply doing their jobs.
