A 40-year-old man has been sentenced to four weeks in prison after he assaulted police officers and made threatening 999 calls over the Easter bank holiday weekend.
The calls
Craig Williams, of Aberdare, dialled 999 on Good Friday, April 3, and made threats to kill officers while being abusive towards the call handler. Even after police were dispatched to his address, he continued making further threatening calls to the emergency number.
The arrest
When officers attended his home to detain him, Williams spat at them. He was subsequently arrested and taken into custody, where he reportedly showed no remorse for his behaviour.
Sentencing
Williams appeared at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court on Easter Monday, April 6, where he pleaded guilty to two counts of assaulting an emergency worker and one count of sending an offensive communication. He was sentenced to four weeks’ imprisonment.
PC Rebecca Guiver said: “It’s never acceptable to be abusive to any member of our call handling team or towards officers, this conviction shows how serious we take these matters.
“Willams now has a small time behind bars to think about what he’s done.”
