A Llandudno man who attacked a retail worker whilst stealing alcohol has been handed a 12-week prison sentence.

Stephen McCouid launched his assault on a shop employee during the early hours of Wednesday morning as the Madoc Street store was opening its doors for business.

The 42-year-old, from Bodhyfryd Road, targeted the premises shortly before 6:30am, stealing alcohol before turning violent towards a member of staff.

Officers arrested McCouid later that same day following reports of the incident. He was subsequently charged with one count of assault and two counts of theft from a shop.

McCouid appeared before Llandudno Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Thursday, 22 January), where he received an immediate custodial sentence of 12 weeks.

The case highlights the serious consequences faced by those who commit acts of violence against retail workers whilst carrying out thefts.
