A 21-year-old café owner from the Gwent Valleys has been sentenced to four years in prison after police uncovered his extensive cannabis supply operation.
Brandon Smalley was found to be purchasing cannabis by the kilo when police raided his parents’ home. Officers discovered his drugs phone hidden in his underpants, which revealed evidence of a “successful drugs operation” including arrangements for drivers and the sourcing of “Cali Weed” from America.
Defence barrister Byron Broadstock told Cardiff Crown Court: “You would have seen your honour that he previously had a business and that he ran a café. That is now run by a friend of his who has taken over the business and who said that they will employ this defendant upon his release from custody.”
Judge Paul Hobson acknowledged Smalley’s family support, stating: “You are, as I think you recognise, very fortunate to have the support of your family. I have read the letters submitted by them about you and your background and I agree with Mr Broadstock that over time that this need not be the defining feature of your life.”
Smalley, of Glan Ddu Terrace, Tir-y-berth, has been in custody since last August and was previously convicted of the same offence in 2022.
