A dangerous driver who used his car “as a weapon” and drove directly at police officers in Wrexham has been sentenced.
Clive Thomas collided with the passenger door of a marked police car, narrowly missing an officer, before speeding away from the scene. The incident happened in the Cefn Road area of Wrexham on Saturday, April 25 last year.
At Wrexham Magistrates Court on Wednesday, November 19, Thomas, of Penycae, admitted assaulting an emergency worker, dangerous driving and driving without a licence and insurance.
A police spokesperson said: “During this incident, Clive, whilst uninsured and without a valid full UK licence, used his vehicle as a weapon and drove directly at a police officer and a marked police vehicle, colliding with the passenger door and narrowly missing the police officer before making off at speed.
“Clive not only shown a blatant disregard with his dangerous actions around members of the public using public highways but also towards the police officers who were there to stop Clive committing anymore offences and who could have been seriously injured due to his cowardly actions of not wanting to face any consequences to his actions.”
With the guilty plea taken into account, Thomas was sentenced to 12 months custody, suspended for 24 months, and ordered to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work. He was banned from driving for 12 months, ordered to participate in an accredited programme for 26 days and pay a total of £272 in court costs.
