Tyler Evans has been sentenced to three years and two months’ imprisonment for a sexually motivated assault on a woman who was walking her dog through Eirias Park, Colwyn Bay.

The 25-year-old, of Glyn Avenue, Colwyn Bay, was found guilty of sexual assault and exposure after standing trial at Mold Crown Court.

The attack

On the evening of October 6, 2025, at around 8pm, the victim became aware of Evans as she made her way through the park. His behaviour had already unsettled her, and she had crossed the road at one point to try to put distance between them.

As she headed for the exit, Evans followed. He exposed himself before launching his attack – seizing her coat with such force that it tore as he tried to drag her towards bushes in a dark, secluded stretch of the park.

The victim, who has legal anonymity, described Evans’s eyes as “fixed” during the assault. The court heard he had been drinking alcohol and using cannabis at the time.

Her dog reacted by barking and lunging towards Evans, giving her the chance to scream. He then fled the scene.

The arrest

Officers were called to the park and Evans was detained two days later, on October 8. He denied carrying out the assault.

Victim’s words

Prosecutor Patrick Gartland read the victim’s personal impact statement to the court. She described how the attack had shattered her confidence and left her struggling to sleep. She spoke of persistent fear and anxiety, and said she no longer feels safe walking her dog on her own. The assault had also taken a toll on her family.

In court

Defence barrister Dafydd Roberts told the court that those who knew Evans spoke positively of him. He described the attack as out of character and brief, explaining that Evans had suffered bereavements and had turned to cannabis and alcohol as a way of coping.

Mr Roberts pointed to a pre-sentence report which assessed that Evans’s risk could be managed within the community, and urged the judge to consider a suspended sentence alongside rehabilitation and community restrictions.

Recorder Paul Lewis rejected that submission and ruled that only immediate custody was appropriate.

The judge told Evans: “You had already exposed your penis.” He described the assault as “planned and sexually motivated.”

Recorder Lewis, who said he knew the park well, noted that the location of the attack was dark and screened by bushes. Evans had used force in his attempt to drag the “terrified” victim towards the undergrowth.

The judge said: “Her dog started barking and lunged at you” and she “managed to scream” – which prevented the attack from going any further.

While Evans was assessed as posing a low risk of general reoffending, the court heard he presented a high risk of “direct contact sexual offending” with “some elements of predatory behaviour”. The fact he had “pounced” on a lone female was indicative of that risk, the judge added.

Sentence

Evans was sentenced to three years and two months in prison. He will serve half in custody, with the remainder on licence.

He has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely and made subject to notification requirements. He must also pay a surcharge.

The court heard Evans had two prior convictions in 2025 for cannabis possession and drug driving.
