A violent assault that left a woman fearing for her safety has resulted in a prison sentence for an Aberdare man.

Daniel Price, 43, will spend the next 12 months behind bars after admitting to assault by beating and possession of a knife. The case was heard at Merthyr Tydfil Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, January 20.

Officers were called to an address in Aberdare on Sunday, January 18, following reports of an attack on a woman. When police arrived, the victim revealed she had been headbutted and punched repeatedly to her body by Price.

As she desperately tried to escape the violence, Price pursued her outside – brandishing a knife in his hand during the chase.

PC Alex Smith, who worked on the case, said: “This would’ve been a very intimidating and scary experience for his victim. Price’s conduct was completely unacceptable, and people behaving like he has done have no place in society. He is deservedly starting his time in prison.”

The 12-month sentence follows Price’s guilty plea to both charges.
