A 42-year-old man from Trowbridge in Cardiff has been handed a six-year prison sentence for distributing over 1,300 indecent images and videos of children.

The investigation

Shaun Moran was arrested after officers from South Wales Police’s Managing Online Sex Offenders and Violent Offenders (MOSOVO) unit visited his home in March 2026. The operation was launched following intelligence that someone at the address had been sharing child sexual abuse material online.

Digital devices were seized from the property and examined by a specialist forensic team, which uncovered evidence of Moran’s online activity. The investigation also involved cooperation with international law enforcement agencies.

The sentence

Moran pleaded guilty at Cardiff Crown Court to a single count of distributing 1,318 indecent photographs and videos of children – 228 of which fell into the most serious category. He was sentenced to six years in custody on May 18.

Beyond his prison term, Moran must sign the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely and is subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Police response

Detective Inspector Sara Bradbury, from South Wales Police, said:

“This highlights both local and global partnerships that MOSOVO engage with, and through the support of the specialist digital forensic team, they identified his online activity.

“Evidence gathered during the operation, which included cooperation from international law enforcement, led to his arrest and the seizure of several digital devices for examination.”

“Safeguarding children remains a priority for South Wales Police, and we will continue to work closely with all partners to identify offenders who use technology to access or distribute illegal content involving children.”
