A property on Middleton Street in Briton Ferry was found to be housing a large-scale cannabis growing operation after South Wales Police secured an emergency warrant to search the address over the weekend.

Community tip-off

The raid came after officers received intelligence from local residents. Upon forcing entry, they found the property had been converted into a cannabis factory containing an estimated 100 to 120 plants – with the smell so strong it could be detected from the street outside.

Safety risk

As well as the drugs operation, officers discovered that electrical wiring within the property had been illegally modified, creating a serious risk not only to the building itself but also to neighbouring homes.

Investigation

Nobody was found inside the property at the time of the search. All plants were removed and the factory was dismantled by officers. South Wales Police confirmed an investigation into the operation is ongoing.
