A Camrose man has been handed a substantial penalty after failing to identify the driver of a Range Rover involved in a dangerous near-miss with a cyclist. 🚴‍♂️🚗

Mark Davies, 57, was ordered to pay more than £1,000 after being found guilty at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court on April 23 of failing to give information relating to the driver of a vehicle when required.

The court heard that on December 30, a Range Rover was travelling at speed along a narrow, unclassified road between Penycwm and Rhydegele when it nearly collided with a cyclist coming from the opposite direction. According to the prosecution, the driver made no attempt to slow down during the incident, which was captured on dashcam footage by a witness.

Davies was initially charged with driving without due care and attention, alongside the charge of failing to provide driver information when required. However, the careless driving charge was withdrawn by the prosecution.

After failing to attend court and entering no plea on either charge, Davies was found guilty in his absence of the remaining offence.

The magistrates imposed a £660 fine, with additional costs of £110 and a £264 surcharge, bringing the total financial penalty to £1,034. Davies also received six penalty points on his driving licence.
