A Swansea man has been sentenced to 18 months in prison after “bombarding” his ex-partner with up to 1,000 calls and threatening text messages just weeks after being released from jail for harassing the same woman. 📱⚖️

Jamie Hancock, 32, of Margaret Street, St Thomas, made lurid threats to his former partner including telling her he was going to “smash up” her face “so nobody wants you” after his release from a 16-week sentence in February.

Swansea Crown Court heard that Hancock’s relationship with his partner of 12 months broke down in October last year. In January, he was sentenced to 16 weeks in prison and made subject to a two-year restraining order for harassment and making threats to damage property.

Prosecutor Ieuan Rees told the court that after Hancock’s release in late February, he began to “bombard” his former partner with calls and texts, many threatening in nature.

When police attended the victim’s house, officers noted her phone was ringing “non stop” and examination of call logs revealed she may have received up to 1,000 calls from Hancock.

In her police statement, the victim said she was so scared she was “unable to live life properly”, adding she was “scared to be in the house but scared to leave in case something happens”.

Hancock pleaded guilty to seven counts of breaching a restraining order. He has previous convictions for 10 offences including two assaults by beating and harassment from 2022.

Defence barrister Jon Tarrant said his client accepted he had a tendency to “fly off the handle” on occasions and understood he needed help with his mental health.

Judge Catherine Richards said it was clear the defendant was a “troubled individual who cares very much about his daughter and is struggling with his mental health at the moment”.

With a one-quarter discount for his guilty pleas, Hancock will serve up to half his 18-month sentence in custody before being released on licence. The restraining order remains in place until January 2027.
