A Caerphilly woman has been handed a suspended prison sentence after fraudulently taking more than £13,000 from her grandmother’s accounts while acting as her financial guardian.
Amanda Pike, 35, of Austin Road, appeared at Newport Magistrates’ Court where she admitted fraud by abuse of position after stealing £13,651.25 from her grandmother Violet Pike over a two-year period.
The court heard how Pike misused her position of trust between January 2022 and May 2024, taking advantage of her role as her grandmother’s appointed financial guardian.
Pike received a 26-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months. She must complete 200 hours of unpaid work and a 10-day rehabilitation activity requirement. The court also ordered her to undergo mental health treatment for 12 months.
Additional financial penalties include a £154 surcharge and £85 in court costs.
