A man who repeatedly stole from shops in Swansea city centre, and later took in a pair of trainers he knew were stolen, has been sent to prison.
Wayne Rogers, 43, who lives in the city centre, has now received a four-month prison sentence for handling stolen goods. He had also admitted three shoplifting offences, for which he was jailed for 12 weeks.
The stolen trainers
In October, Rogers pleaded guilty to receiving a pair of Nike trainers, knowing they had been stolen. That offence led to the latest sentence of four months in prison.
The shop thefts
The shoplifting happened in April, with Ann Summers on Whitewalls targeted twice within a few days:
- 8 April – underwear worth £64 taken from Ann Summers
- 11 April – seven lingerie sets worth £77 taken from the same shop
- 11 April – four shirts worth £140 taken from Slaters on Princess Way
Along with the 12-week prison term for these thefts, Rogers was ordered to pay the stores a total of £282 in compensation.
What police said
Sergeant Emyr Price, of South Wales Police, said:
“Tackling shoplifting in our city centre is an important priority for the City NPT.
“Sadly, Wayne Rogers has continued to offend and involve himself in criminality, without a thought for the damage this causes to businesses in the city.”
