A 75-year-old man already behind bars for dealing heroin has lost £82,401 in cash and assets after police went after the money he made from crime.

The confiscation hearing

The case against Arthur Hughes, of Maes Bleddyn in Rachub, returned to Caernarfon Crown Court on Monday 12 October for a hearing under the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA).

At that hearing, the total value of his criminal activity was put at more than £151,730.

North Wales Police had seized cash and criminal assets worth £82,401, and the court ordered that sum to be forfeited.

A destruction order was also made for the drugs and paraphernalia officers found when they executed a warrant at his home.

The original case

Hughes was jailed in June for three years and two months and is still serving that sentence. He was sentenced for:

  • Possession of heroin with intent to supply
  • Possession of criminal property

Police response

PC Jacob Swift said: “We continue to pursue those who seek to profit from drug dealing and will use all the tools at our disposal to strip criminals of any assets they have acquired as a result of their activities.”
