A Merseyside man has been jailed for two and a half years after police stopped his car on the A55 and found a large quantity of cocaine in the boot.

Lee Hope, 38, was sentenced to two years and six months at Mold Crown Court on 25 September, having already pleaded guilty to possessing cocaine with intent to supply.

The stop

On 21 August, North Wales Police received information that a car was making its way from Merseyside into North Wales with the aim of bringing drugs into the area.

Officers pulled the vehicle over on the A55 at Bangor. Hope, of Lyme Cross Road, Huyton, was the driver and was arrested at the roadside.

What officers found

Inside the boot was a large amount of cocaine. Police estimate it could have fetched up to £30,000 on the street.

Police response

PC Scott Jones said: “We will continue to relentlessly pursue those who seek to bring illegal drugs into North Wales and will act on any information received from the community.

“Criminals who are involved in drug supply cause devastating harm to vulnerable people for their own financial gain.

“I continue to urge anybody with information about drugs in their area to contact police or make an anonymous report to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
