A 64-year-old man who sexually assaulted a child has been given a prison sentence of 12 years and six months at Caernarfon Crown Court.

Angel Walker, of no fixed abode, was sentenced on Friday 16 October. He had already pleaded guilty to four counts of sexual assault on a child.

Court orders

As well as his prison term, Walker was made subject to:

  • a lifetime sexual harm prevention order (SHPO)
  • a lifetime restraining order
  • a requirement to register as a sex offender indefinitely

Arrest in Portugal

Police began investigating in 2021, when the victim, who is now an adult, reported what had happened to her.

Walker was arrested in connection with the offences. In 2022, while he was still under investigation, he left the country. He was later arrested in Portugal and returned to the UK in 2026.

Investigator’s statement

Civilian Investigator Amy Jones, of North Wales Police, praised the victim and encouraged other survivors of sexual abuse to report it, however long ago it happened.

She said: “I commend the victim for her patience, persistence and bravery during a long wait for justice.

“The defendant’s despicable actions have changed her life forever, but it is hoped that the sentencing allows for some closure and supports the victim in moving forward with her life.

“We will robustly investigate such crimes and encourage victims of sexual abuse to come forward in the confidence that they will be listened to and supported, no matter when the abuse happened.”
