A 52-year-old woman has been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 16 years for the murder of her partner in Wrexham. 📰

Joanna Wronska, of Pentre Gwyn in Caia Park, killed Marcin Koziol with a single stab wound to the heart in October 2023. Despite her claims that he had inflicted the injuries on himself in a suicide attempt, a jury at Mold Crown Court saw through her deception and convicted her of murder after less than 90 minutes of deliberations.

Police were called to the couple’s home on 23rd October where they found Marcin lying in bed with a large stab wound to his chest. Despite paramedics’ efforts, he sadly could not be saved.

Wronska initially told officers that when she entered the bedroom, she found him covered in blood and he had asked her to call an ambulance. However, following a thorough investigation, a clean knife matching the measurements of the injury was discovered in the kitchen sink, with traces of blood found around the bathroom sink where Wronska had been seen wiping her hands upon police arrival.

The pathologist who conducted the postmortem raised concerns about how a right-handed man could inflict such a wound at that angle with enough force to fracture three ribs – completely severing one. Investigators believe that in a drunken temper, Wronska took the knife and stabbed her partner.

Detective Chief Inspector Eleri Thomas said: “Joanna Wronska senselessly and needlessly ended Marcin Koziol’s life – her partner who she claimed she loved deeply.

“It was a cruel and violent attack on a man who had sought support from her.

“Wronska then went to great lengths to conceal her crime and deceive the police by claiming Marcin had killed himself, causing untold trauma to his family, some of whom had to endure the ordeal of giving evidence, and then forced to listen to her lies throughout the trial.

“The thorough and diligent work carried out by the investigation team helped the jury see through her lies and secure justice for Marcin’s loved ones.

“I would thank everyone who came forward to assist with the investigation, including the first responders who tried to save his life.

“We will never know what drove Wronska to end Marcin’s life, but I hope her conviction and today’s result brings some small measure of respite to his family.”
