A man who strangled, threatened and repeatedly raped a woman in the Chirk area, leaving her with severe internal injuries, has been jailed for 18 years with a further five years on extended licence.
Jordan Jones, 26, of South View, Chirk, received the 23-year extended sentence at Mold Crown Court on Monday 5 October after pleading guilty to nine offences.
What he admitted
Jones pleaded guilty to four counts of rape and two counts of sexual assault. He also admitted threats to kill, intentional strangulation and assault.
The attack
The offences happened in February 2026. Earlier that evening, Jones had already threatened to kill the woman. He later strangled and attacked her.
When she tried to escape, he pulled her to the floor, threatened her life again and raped her violently. During the assault he told her: “I will show you what a rapist can do”.
The doctor who treated her said her injuries were the worst they had ever come across.
Arrest
Officers were called after a report of a woman in distress in the Chirk area. Shortly after police arrived, Jones was found in a car nearby and arrested. He remained on remand in custody until his sentencing hearing.
Sentencing
In addition to the custodial term and extended licence period, Jones will be on the sex offenders register indefinitely. A restraining order was also made to protect the victim for the rest of her life.
Police response
Detective Constable James Grimwood, the investigating officer, said: “This was a sustained attack by a truly despicable offender who inflicted brutal violence on the victim, leaving her with devastating physical injuries and emotional distress – for which he has shown no remorse.
“She has undergone trauma that no one should ever face and it is testament to her extraordinary courage that Jones will rightly serve a considerable amount of time in prison, where he can cause no further harm.
“I hope this outcome provides some measure of reassurance and closure, as she continues her recovery.
“I would also like to thank the heroic response by uniformed colleagues on the night, who were quick to attend and safeguard the victim, whilst other colleagues were able to apprehend the defendant without delay.
“Tackling violence against women and girls remains a foremost priority for North Wales Police. We are committed to identifying perpetrators, pursuing justice, and ensuring that victims receive the protection and support they need.
“We will continue to work tirelessly to keep our communities safe.”
