A 33-year-old from Anglesey will spend more than three years behind bars after a court heard how he beat and controlled a woman over a six-month period.
Joshua Wren, of Cecil Street, Holyhead, was handed a sentence of three years and three months when he appeared at Mold Crown Court on Wednesday 16 September. A seven-year restraining order was also imposed to keep the victim safe from him.
What the court heard
The abuse took place between August 2025 and February 2026. During that time Wren struck the woman, slapping her and punching her to the head, and used threats to keep her under his control. She was left frightened for her own safety.
The convictions
Wren had earlier been found guilty of controlling and coercive behaviour following a trial. He also pleaded guilty to possessing a class B drug.
Police response
North Wales Police said Wren was already known for violence before this case.
Detective Constable Amie said: “Wren has a previous history of violence and has once again shown that he is a danger to women.
“I commend the victim for her bravery in coming forward. I hope this sentence allows her to move forward with her life.
“We take all forms of violence against women and girls seriously and continue to bring offenders to justice.
“I encourage anyone experiencing abuse, or concerned for the welfare of someone else, to contact us. We will listen and take action.”
