A 41-year-old man has been sentenced to more than six years behind bars after subjecting his partner to a sustained campaign of violence that left her with serious facial injuries and a burn mark believed to have been caused by a hot kettle.
The attack
Richard Thomas, of Ffordd Powell, Caego, carried out the assault at the victim’s home in Wrexham in October last year. She had endured weeks of physical abuse before fleeing the property and alerting North Wales Police.
The injuries
Officers found the woman had suffered significant and multiple injuries to her face, along with bruising across her body from being punched and kicked. A burn mark was visible on her face, thought to have come from a hot kettle, while further bruising to her neck showed where she had been strangled.
Sentencing
Thomas appeared at Mold Crown Court on Thursday, April 16, having previously admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm, inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent, and intentional strangulation. He was jailed for six years and three months.
The court also imposed an indefinite Domestic Abuse Protection Order, prohibiting Thomas from contacting the victim by any means for the rest of his life.
