A 53-year-old from Risca has pleaded guilty to attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child under the age of 16 following an appearance at Newport Magistrates’ Court.
The offences
David Lewis, of Manor Way in the Ty Sign area of Risca, carried out the online offending over a six-week period between 1 December 2025 and 15 January. During the exchanges, Lewis told what he believed to be an underage girl that he wanted to “hug, kiss and touch her”.
Next steps
Magistrates adjourned the case until 1 May to allow a pre-sentence report to be prepared before sentencing. Lewis was granted conditional bail in the meantime and was ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register.
