Two men from Porth have been handed prison sentences for their involvement in supplying cocaine and cannabis across the Rhondda valleys.
Coran Davies, 23, and Dale Howell, 25, both appeared at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court on Thursday, April 9, where they were sentenced after pleading guilty to drugs offences and acquiring criminal property.
Davies received four years in prison, while Howell was given three years.
The search warrant
The investigation began when officers executed a warrant under the Misuse of Drugs Act at a property in Treherbert on September 25. Inside, they recovered an ounce of cocaine along with cannabis and other drugs paraphernalia.
As part of that inquiry, detectives seized and began analysing a phone linked to the address.
The dental selfie
It was during that phone examination that an unusual piece of evidence emerged. An image had been sent to the device showing Davies sat in a dentist’s chair after undergoing dental treatment in Turkey for new teeth.
Officers used retrospective facial recognition technology to identify Davies from the photograph. Further messages recovered from the phone made reference to the supply of cocaine and cannabis.
The arrest
Months later, on March 7, 2025, plain-clothed officers spotted Davies driving a black Ford Fiesta through Tonypandy. He was pulled over and arrested. Howell was travelling as a passenger in the vehicle and was also detained.
When both men were searched, officers found them carrying cocaine, cannabis and thousands of pounds in cash.
