A 24-year-old man has been sentenced to more than two years in prison after admitting he threatened to release an intimate image of a woman and sent her messages including a threat to stab her.

Jordan Davies, of High Street, Pwllheli, appeared at Caernarfon Crown Court on Friday where he was handed a 28-month prison sentence. He will serve half of that time in custody, with the remainder spent on licence. A restraining order lasting 10 years was also imposed, along with a statutory surcharge.

The offences

Davies pleaded guilty to threatening to share an image of a person in an intimate state, as well as a further serious criminal offence. Prosecuting barrister William Griffin told the court that among the abusive messages sent to the victim, one stated: “I must stab you.”

The woman reported the messages to North Wales Police.

Impact on the victim

In an impact statement read to the court, the victim described how the offences had left her feeling “anxious and scared” to go out and visit people.

Previous offending

The court heard Davies has eight previous convictions covering 13 separate offences. His criminal record includes malicious communications, harassment putting a person in fear of violence, and disclosing private sexual photographs to cause distress.

Defence arguments

Richard Edwards, representing Davies, highlighted that his client had entered an early guilty plea and suffered from mental health difficulties including anxiety, depression and bipolar disorder. He told the court the offending took place over a limited period and involved no physical assault.

Sentencing

Recorder Duncan Bould said a pre-sentence report revealed Davies had shown only limited acceptance of responsibility and demonstrated “little insight” into his behaviour. The judge noted that Davies was assessed as presenting a “high risk” of harm and had told a probation officer it was likely he would reoffend.
